For Disney's "Lost World" adventure "The Island at the Top of the World" (1974), special effects and matte artist Peter Ellenshaw designed a spectacular post-Victorian-style French airship, the Hyperion, to convey its voyagers high above the Arctic Circle. Disney built a full-size set, a 220ft motor-driven tapered dirigible, as well as models used for special effects. The airship's striking design is so iconic that a life-size version of the Hyperion is featured in Discoveryland in Disneyland Paris.
